In a few words ...

Wine information Here's one of three syrahs from marlène soria, one of the 'best, craziest and most indomitable winemakers in the languedoc', as vinum puts it. That it takes a good dose of strength of character to age her wines for over ten years in big wood and cement vats before bottling, is certainly true. But the result proves him right. Les Cistes is a fermented Syrah with a small proportion of Grenache. Both grape varieties are planted in the same vineyard on hard rock. Since 2011, it has been called les cistes rather than clos des cistes. It has become a vin de france. dark ruby red in color with brick-red highlights and a dark core nose like all of marlène soria's wines, les cistes calls for a decanter on opening, in which it should be given some time. Next, the syrah opens with notes of cistus and garrigue, rosemary and juniper, as well as a basket of ripe blackberries, blueberries, black cherries and plums, cinnamon, cloves and a little nutmeg and hazelnut, suggesting long aging with a hint of oxidation. Even with air and heat, the walnut is still part of the medley, to which are added notes of hanging meat, a scent of juicy forest berries, undergrowth, forest floor and ripe sweetness. les cistes is a wine that is eleven years mature, yet young and full of energy on the palate, yet powerful, dense, firm and compact. In contrast to belle léone, it is a little lighter and rounder, and even more clearly integrates the licorice note typical of Grenache into the fleshy black fruit, in which we find black cardamom, pepper and the aforementioned garrigue. The fruit is reminiscent of blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry, accompanied by an extracted sweetness and a silky tannic frame, crossed by a fantastically lively acid nerve, which gives this fleshy, herbaceous wine the necessary backbone. it's very coherent, complex and welcoming. The wine is perfectly drinkable now, but has great potential for the future.
