The winemaker

The history of this family, originally from Piedmont in Italy, shows a whole chapter in the history of California wine. Edoardo Seghesio left his native Piedmont and her family vineyard in 1886. He became "chief winemaker" to a group of Italian-Swiss winemakers in Sonoma, then planted his first vines Zinfandel in the Alexander Valley in 1895. Since then, four generations family have prospered vineyards which now reaches some 160 hectares. Seghesio has built its reputation on its wines and its expertise Zinfandel reaching a phrase without much equivalent in California.
