An official deed from the early 16th century already lists this plot of 52 ouvrées in the former Domaine des Ducs de Bourgogne. The ouvrée, the traditional unit of surface area in Burgundy, represents the surface area that a winegrower could take care of alone in one day; there are around 24 ouvrées in one hectare. A true clos, surrounded by meurgers, it covers an area of 2.15 hectares, identical to the 52 ouvrées measured in the 16th century. The soil is highly calcareous, stony, poor, fairly deep and very clayey (white marl). The perfect southeast exposure guarantees ideal sunshine. The vineyard's steep slope ensures excellent drainage.
