The winemaker

Established in Cowaramup, south of Perth in Western Australia, Domaine Vasse Felix is the pioneer of viticulture in the Margaret River region. Indeed, in 1967, after more than a year of intensive research, Dr Thomas Cullity planted his first vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Malbec and Riesling in this corner of the country, where the surrounding climatic conditions are similar to those in Bordeaux. The estate, bought by the Holmes family in 1987, is skilfully managed by the current team, who strive to produce wines of remarkable balance. The Vasse Felix estate comprises four vineyards in the Margaret River wine region. The sites have been selected for their unique topography, micro-climates and natural drainage. The best-suited grape varieties were matched to each vineyard, and specific rows and blocks were planted to match the topography and soil type. A "hands-off" philosophy is implemented, aiming to achieve "fruit quality through plant health and plant health through soil health".
