In a few words ...
Rangen is located at the end of the Thur river valley in Thann, very close to the Vosges mountains. This explains the higher rainfall (compared with Turckheim, for example), which is welcome, as the Rangen's steep terroir (89% average slope) and dark volcanic soil increase the vines' need for water. Storms are also more violent, as was the case in 2012 when, in early August, a hailstorm brought down between 20% and 50% of an already small harvest. Luckily, as the hailstorm hit the vineyards before ripening had begun, some grapes or parts of grapes fell, but there were no damaged grapes left on the vines that could have compromised the quality of the wine. The reduction in volume partly explains the richness of this wine, but it was impressive to see the strength of this terroir that was able to rise so high after such an event.

Gunflint, aromatic herbs combined with a discreet exotic touch, the signature of 2011 wines. This nose can only presage an expressive palate of stone aromas and a hint of smoke.

A rare balance, where austerity becomes quality. The finish is long and also marked by bitters enhanced by acidity. These bitters also bring out the minerality of this wine.
