The winemaker

My name is Frédéric Bourgoin. I'm a winemaker in the village of Tarsac (commune of Saint-Saturnin, Charente, France). I make cognacs that are atypical in both form and content. I'm sure you've tasted cognacs before, but as you read on, you'll see that my eaux-de-vie are a far cry from today's standards. The family estate has carried the BOURGOIN name since 1930, and today covers the Petite Champagne and Fins Bois crus. A single ambition: to dust off the image of cognac and help French consumers rediscover it. I lay claim to the terroir of premiers bois, a tiny cru forgotten on the 1909 cognac AOC map, which benefits from magnificent Cretaceous subsoils. I insist on making "natural" cognacs that best express the terroir in which they were born. Nature, in other words? No blending, no filtration, no coloring, no added sugar. My cognacs are bottled by hand: by vintage, by plot and by barrel. Old vintages are always offered at full strength. I adhere to the biodynamic way of thinking. As such, reductions on young eaux-de-vie are made with local spring water to optimize aromatic lift. Sub-strains are carried out in moon quadrature, to take full advantage of fluid mechanics and avoid filtration. Bottling is done by gravity and 100% by hand on the estate. My cognacs are destined for enthusiastic wine merchants, quality restaurants and bartenders concerned with the well-being of their clientele. Here are the different qualities I offer. Volumes are limited, but the taste is always there.
