The winemaker

Learn about the terroir and vineyard, and discover the wines of Château de la Terrière. Most of the Château de la Terrière vines are around 50 years old. They are planted mid-slope, facing south, on a pretty hillside of weathered pink granite. The soils are composed of granite, manganese, sand and iron oxide. This estate produces exceptional wines, but it's only really since 2010 that it has gained in popularity thanks to the Pinot Noir grape variety in Cogny. The vines are cultivated using a "lutte raisonnée" system, the soil is worked mechanically and interventions are kept to a minimum. In short, everything is done with the utmost precision to enhance the expression of the terroirs and respect the vines. The approach remains traditional, with harvesting done by hand, in bins to avoid crushing the grapes and allow easy sorting of the berries. Recently, clover was sown on the grassed plots to limit weeding, restructure the soil and fix atmospheric nitrogen. 6 hectares are now in conversion to organic farming.
