Appellation Coteaux-du-Lyonnais

The AOC Coteaux du Lyonnais, soils that have been home to vines for over 20 centuries

The Coteaux du Lyonnais belong to the Beaujolais vineyards, the 320 hectare appellation is located near Lyon, on plots of land between 200 and 550 metres in altitude. The presence of vines in the Lyon region dates back to 45 BC, so the region seems to be favourable to wine growing!

The grape varieties planted in the AOC are Gamay, Chardonnay and Aligoté. They benefit from a climate with triple influences: continental, oceanic and Mediterranean. This results in dry and hot summers, and also leads to large differences in temperature depending on the plots. The soils of the appellation are also varied: we find granite in the North, sand in the South, and clay-limestone soils in the Monts d'Or.

The three Coteaux du Lyonnais wines

The red wines of the AOC have a ruby colour. The nose is reminiscent of Gamay with red fruit aromas, particularly strawberries. With time, the wine develops notes of cooked black fruits. The mouth offers velvety tannins, roundness and a pleasant fruity side. Coteaux du Lyonnais reds go perfectly with red meats, such as duck. It will be a delight with duck breast accompanied by a red fruit sauce.

The Coteaux du Lyonnais rosés have a salmon colour, quite pale. One can detect scents of red fruit, redcurrant and strawberry. These aromas continue on the palate, giving a fresh, full-bodied wine. This rosé can be enjoyed with cold meats, particularly from Lyon, and for a little originality, with a chorizo risotto.

The white wines have a greenish colour with golden highlights. The nose is lively, with notes of citrus and exotic fruits such as pineapple. There is also a touch of minerality. On the palate, the wine is very fresh and harmonious. These white wines go well with fish tartars or carpaccios, as well as goat's cheese.
