Appellation Régnié

The AOC Régnié, the youngest of the Beaujolais crus

The AOC Régnié only became one of the Beaujolais crus in 1988, which makes it the last cru of the vineyard. Spread over the communes of Régnié-Durette and Lantignié, the 395 hectare appellation faces the Brouilly mountain, at an average altitude of 350 metres.

As in the rest of the Beaujolais vineyards, the single grape variety is Gamay, which is recognisable by its small bunches and medium-sized berries. Gamay produces quite fruity and spicy wines with a bright colour.

It finds a favourable climate in the appellation: it has three characteristics. It has oceanic, Mediterranean and continental influences, which creates a fairly mild climate, with rainfall well distributed throughout the year, winds necessary for the vines, but sometimes with heavy summer storms that can be destructive.

The soils of the appellation are mostly sandy, with pink granite, and are therefore rich in minerals.

Tasting the AOC Régnié Red

The colour of AOC Régnié is cherry red, although it becomes more purplish during the first months.

The nose is very clear on red fruits such as raspberry and redcurrant, and it diffuses perfumes of violet according to the vintages.

On the palate, Régnié is a wine with melted tannins, which gives a very lively impression of biting into a fresh fruit, it is very aromatic and elegant. It also has a good length and sometimes has a spicy finish.

AOC Régnié Rouge goes very well with red meats, but also with poultry such as quail or guinea fowl. It will sublimate dishes with a mushroom sauce.
