The winemaker
A family history
Domaine de Cambes is that UFO that attracts the curious and Bordeaux lovers with a strong style. Inspired and supported by her father François Mitjaville, who runs Château Tertre Roteboeuf in Saint-Émilion, Nina Mitjaville keeps the family style alive at Domaine de Cambes (in the paluds in AOC Bordeaux) and Château Roc de Cambes (Côte-de-Bourg on the hillsides).
In the equation, we must also take into account Louis, known as "Loulou" who also develops the family style at Domaine de l'Aurage, in Castillon, in Côtes de Bordeaux.
The Mitjaville family is not only a family of winegrowers, it is a family of enthusiasts who develop a style by playing on all the parameters: the vagaries of the climate, special pruning of the vine, manual and meticulous harvesting to obtain grapes at optimal ripeness, blending after careful pressing... To this, we can add a mature reflection on the different terroirs on which the family members have settled.
Exceptional wines
The family's favorite grape variety, Merlot is exploited in all its facets, and each vintage manages to excel in its own interpretation of the variety, yielding wines as unique as they are characterful.
In addition, Mitjaville's prowess allows them to impart a certain tannic power to their wines, making them ageable wines that can, however, be drunk early without cellar aging.
Each year, the wines produced benefit from modernized techniques, without breaking with the classic, iconic style of the house. As Loulou says, "We don't change our guns! 45 years and counting!"
