The winemaker

The history of Rose Pauillac

La Rose Pauillac was founded in 1933, by some thirty winemakers wishing to pool their equipment and share their know-how to make a great Pauillac wine. The region's vines had just gone through a number of serious crises, including the devastating phylloxera epidemic. Thus was born the Groupement de producteurs La Rose Pauillac, the oldest cooperative in Aquitaine.

The 25-hectare estate is located some 50 km north of Bordeaux. The multitude of parcels that make up La Rose Pauillac are enclosed within the Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc.

By the 1960s, almost all the small vineyards in Pauillac had joined Rose Pauillac. The parcel harvest produced three significantly different wines, aimed at satisfying the diverse sensibilities of the appellation's enthusiasts.

Located in the center of the commune, La Rose Pauillac is open to visitors and offers a wine tour and tasting in this magnificent former farmhouse dating from the 19th century. This is where you'll find the semi-buried winemaking cellar, where half the barrels are renewed every year.

The Rose de Pauillac vineyard

All the winemakers involved in making Rose de Pauillac wines are committed to respecting tradition and terroir. For over 20 years, they have been working their land in a sustainable way. Soil cultivation excludes the use of insecticides and herbicides. The grapes are harvested by hand.

The grape varieties grown in the Pauillac appellation are Cabernet Franc Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon Noir, Merlot Noir, Carménère and Petit Verdot Noir. As a rule, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blend.

Pauillac Rose wines

La Rose Pauillac - Cuvée Bois de Rose

La Rose Pauillac Cuvée de Bois de Rose is a red wine produced by 22 small producers. Half of the wine is Cabernet Sauvignon. It is complemented by 40% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The cuvée is one of the Médoc's most concentrated wines, with a remarkable balance that persists with its long ageing potential.

Cuvée de Bois de Rose is a dense, fat wine. It has a purplish-red color with crimson highlights. The nose is rich in red and black fruit aromas, with blackcurrant dominating. Fresh and round on the palate. Its robust structure gradually reveals its silky tannins. La Rose Pauillac - Cuvée Bois de Rose goes wonderfully well with poultry, as well as with any cheese.

La Rose Pourpre

La Rose Pourpre was born in 2009. It is the result of the work of three winemakers who participate in this blend where Petit Verdot is the most important (25%), after Cabernet Sauvignon.

Its color is, of course, crimson. The nose is full of blackberries, black cherries and blackcurrants. The presence of Petit Verdot ensures great freshness. Rose Pourpre is the perfect accompaniment to white meats and chocolate or coffee desserts.
