Haut Médoc is located upstream from the Gironde estuary. The gravelly composition of the soil encourages the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are concentrated and tannic, requiring at least 6 months of ageing. When young, the nose offers aromas of red and black fruits, evolving towards spices and vanilla to a greater or lesser extent with ageing. Haut Médocs are great wines for laying down.
The 1975 vintage was an excellent one, with a small crop, but one that took a little time to mature. The red wines were full-bodied, with all the qualities of great wines that didn't always live up to their promise.
