The winemaker

The history of Domaine Dujac

When it was founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, Domaine Dujac covered 5 hectares. Today, it extends over 17.5 hectares around the commune of Morey Saint Denis, as well as other equally prestigious communes on the Burgundy wine route.
Jacques Seysses was neither a Burgundian nor a winegrower when he embarked on his adventure. However, thanks to his grandfather, already passionate about wine and gastronomy, he spent his childhood rubbing shoulders with the greatest winemakers. He began his career working in the family cookie factory, but at the age of 25, his passion won out and he left the business to devote himself body and soul to wine.
Between 1967 and 1968, he learned the winemaking trade at Domaine de la Pousse d'Or in Volnay, before buying Domaine Graillet in 1968. He renamed it Domaine Dujac, a contraction of "domaine du Jacques". In 1973, he married Rosalind, who took a leading role in the family business.
In 1998, the couple's child, Jeremy, joined the domaine. His wife, Diane, took over in 2001, followed by his younger brother, Alec, in 2003. The two generations of winemakers work together to constantly improve the quality of their production, as well as their farming methods. In 2011, Domaine Dujac obtained organic farming certification.

The Domaine Dujac vineyard

The Domaine Dujac vineyard covers 17.5 hectares. 14.5 hectares are dedicated to red wine and the Pinot Noir grape variety. The last 3 hectares, reserved for white wine, are planted with Chardonnay.
The average age of the vines is 35 years. Average production at Domaine Dujac is 70,000 bottles.
Over time and through acquisitions, the historic Morey Saint Denis estate has expanded to include other appellations in Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune.
Conversion to organic farming was initiated in 2001, to cover the entire estate in 2008, and achieve certification in 2011. Biodynamics are also applied to preserve the vines and terroirs.
