Emmanuel Guillot and his brother Patrice are pursuing their father's dream at the Guillot-Broux estate. Located in Cruzille, Burgundy, the domain was born in the 1970s. But make no mistake, this recent creation does not symbolize the great past and experience of the Guillot-Broux family in the vineyard. The winemaker

History

Between the Guillot-Broux family and wine, it's a true love story!

The estate was created in 1978 but to understand this phenomenon, we need to go back even further. In 1954, the grandparents Pierre and Jeannine Guillot built what would be the first organic wine estate in Burgundy. It was as a result of certain encounters but also because of their own convictions that the couple embarked on this new experience for the time.

They instilled in their son this passion for the vine, the latter named Jean-Gérard Guillot will work in Brouilly, at the Domaine de La Chanal. Then, to perfect his experience, he will go to the Domaine Bernard-Michelot in Meursault. Thanks to what he had learned from his various tutors, but also from his parents, he bought his first hectare with his wife Jacqueline Broux. Together they created the Domaine Guillot-Broux in 1978.

It is hand in hand that they move towards an organic viticulture, to finally obtain the certification in 1991, date at which the label Organic Agriculture was finally recognized by the French State. It took a few more years to see it appear on the bottles (2005).

Unfortunately for the family, Jean-Gérard Guillot died in 2008 and left the estate to his sons. Emmanuel and Patrice were left to their own devices but succeeded brilliantly...

Quantity? No, quality!

Today they manage a 17 hectare estate, planted in 3 appellations: Burgundy, Mâcon Cruzilles and Mâcon Chardonnay. The plots, carefully chosen by Jean-Gérard Guillot, are optimally located for perfect sunshine that produces magnificent grapes. The two brothers also benefit from a particularly interesting geology in terms of its complexity but also its diversity. The resulting wines are logically quite different, which gives great freedom to our two winemakers.

The latter continue to work the estate in organic viticulture by avoiding heavy treatments and by implementing a natural fight against parasites. For the vines, green fertilizers are used. In each of their actions, our protagonists seek to preserve the life of the soil, which allows to reveal the characteristics of the terroir.

Moreover, each parcel is vinified separately to produce a range of original and pleasant wines. The grapes are harvested by hand to select only the best, they also prioritize quality over quantity whether in the vinification or in the vineyards (with adapted green work). If a vintage from a parcel does not seem to be up to par, it will be blended with the house's "petites cuvées".

Domaine Guillot-Broux is without a doubt the vineyard to visit in the Mâconnais region. The Guide de la Revue du Vin de France has not been mistaken in awarding a star to the domain, judged as a wine reference...
