The winemaker

History and vineyards

Located north of Reims, in the communes of Pouillon, Chenay and Trigny, Champagne Cuillier has been cultivating vines for over a century. In fact, some parcels have belonged to the family since the 18th century and are still in production today. As you can see, this estate is first and foremost a family affair, with a passion for viticulture handed down from generation to generation.

Over time, techniques have improved both in viticulture in general, and within the Cuillier estate itself. Indeed, the Cuillier family seems to have had this desire to make great wines from the very beginning. In particular, they have concentrated on a small number of parcels, 6 hectares in all. Suffice to say, they know their parcels by heart!

Let's talk about terroir... Champagne Cuillier boasts an incredible mosaic of soils, with varied qualities that can be felt in the tastings. And it's thanks to the hard work of their ancestors that the family now enjoys such high-quality plots.

All three of Champagne's flagship grape varieties are grown here: pinot noir, pinot meunier and chardonnay. Although pinot noir is in the majority, the family has extended its range to cater for all tastes. No less than 50,000 bottles leave the winery every year to visit the finest tables in France and around the world. Gourmandise, tenderness and elegance... you'll find it all in the six cuvées on offer!

A strong commitment

A new generation of winemakers is now in charge of this exceptional vineyard: Patrick Cuillier and his wife Marie-Paule. The former is in charge of viticulture and vinification, taking great care throughout the year. The latter is responsible for the administrative and economic management of the estate, overseeing its development and ensuring that everything is up to standard... One of the estate's commitments is to sustainable viticulture, which was introduced in the 1970s by the previous generation.

As the soil gives a singular expression to the champagnes we produce, it is our duty to protect it. His know-how, coupled with observation of nature, dictates the rhythm of the various operations to be carried out in the vineyard. Attentive to the needs of his vines, Patrick Cuillier strives not only to respect the life of the soil, but also to revive it!

With his team, he makes his own compost to enrich the soil. He also uses plant cover crops to create the organic matter necessary for soil life. To crown it all, an agroforestry project has also been set up to develop biodiversity. The estate's impressive work in this area has earned it several labels, including "Agriculture biologique" (organic farming) and "vins végans" (vegan wines)...
