The winemaker

The Domain

It was in 1982 that a couple of self-taught winemakers, Marthe and François Lemarié, decided to settle in the south of France, on the terroir of Boutenac, this "little corner of paradise" named "les Aiguillous" in honor of the Occitan name of the small stream that borders the property's vineyards.

Passionate about good wine and good local products, the two winemakers decided to dedicate their lives to the production of a wine of good living, joyful, and whose vinification is as rigorous as it is artistic. For them, it is a matter of "putting happiness in bottles".

It is in the heart of the Corbières that Château Aiguilloux will evolve, with respect for the vine, the fruit and the terroir as essential principles. The result is the production of typical and full-bodied wines, elegant and full-bodied, which are regularly rewarded, and this since the second harvest.

The terroir

The Chateau Aiguilloux estate is located in the heart of the Corbières, extending over an area of 37 hectares of vines surrounded by 95 hectares of woods and garrigues. The vineyard, bordered by hills with a limestone ridge, surrounds the century-old house, as well as its cellar and winery, within a sort of hilly cirque.

The microclimate that reigns on the terroir is characterized by alternating summer heat moderated by a northwest wind (the Cers), autumn coolness and sparing winter rainfall. All this ensures controlled yields, beautifully ripe fruit and a berry with concentrated aromas.

Aware of the importance of preserving their terroir, the winemakers at the head of the estate do their utmost to preserve the biological balance of their vineyard.

The wines

The wines of Chateau Aiguilloux are powerful, fine and elegant wines for aging.

The Cuvée Rosé is a blend of Cinsault and Syrah. Its color is a fresh pink, with redcurrant highlights. The nose is fine, evoking small summer fruits. Elegant and fruity, this wine is the indispensable friend of summer aperitifs, and noble fish such as roasted turbot or scallops gratinated with Japanese seaweed.

The Cuvée Aventure, a blend of Carignan, Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre, is a tannic and fruity wine. As refined as it is harmonious, it gives off intense aromas of red fruits. Ideal to accompany a farm poultry casserole or a duck breast, it will also go well with exotic and spicy cuisines.

The Trois Seigneurs Cuvée is a trio of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah. Its color is a deep, dark garnet red, suggesting an explosive nose of black fruits. On the palate, a beautiful woody length is completed by melted tannins. The ideal wine to accompany a rib of Aubrac beef, farm poultry, or powerful chocolate desserts.

The "Anne-Georges" vintage is a blend of Carignan and Syrah. Aged in barrels, this wine here gives off notes of spices and small, well-ripened black fruits. In the mouth, the wine is full and long, revealing woody notes and a peppery finish evoking the garrigues. Balanced and elegant, this wine sublimates tasty dishes like venison or hare à la royale.
