The winemaker

The history of Domaine Anne Gros and Jean-Paul Tollot

Anne Gros is the heiress of the family wine estate, founded by one of her ancestors in Burgundy in 1904. An accomplished winemaker with a reputation for Burgundy wines, in 2007 she embarked on a new adventure, in partnership with her husband, Jean-Paul Tollot, creating an estate in the Minervois region of Languedoc. It was an opportunity for the couple to discover new terroirs and new grape varieties, typical of southern France, such as Carignan, Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault.

Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot covers a terroir on the borders of the Minervois and Saint Chinian appellation areas. The couple acquired parcels near Cazelles, selected for their clay-limestone composition. A modern, functional winery was built to handle the entire wine production chain.

The first vintage of Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot was released in 2008. Over the years, the quality has been refined to become one of the most renowned Minervois producers.

The vineyards of Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot

The Minervois vineyards cover almost 15,000 hectares of vines, of which 5,000 hectares belong to the Minervois AOC. It's one of the largest in Languedoc Roussillon, producing wines so diverse that the appellation has been divided into three distinct AOCs: AOC Minervois, AOC Minervois - La Livinière and Muscat de Saint Jean de Minervois.

Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot is located on one of the five terroir zones of the Minervois, the Causse. The other four are the Balcons de l'Aude, the Mourels, the Petit Causse and the Terrasses.

Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot produces an average of 60,000 bottles a year. The vineyard covers 15 hectares, planted exclusively with red grapes. The plots are located at altitudes of between 200 and 500 meters, resulting in significant temperature differences between day and night. This thermal amplitude slows warming, particularly in spring. In this semi-mountainous environment, rainfall is higher than average in the Minervois.

The grape varieties are 40% Syrah, 30% Carignan, 20% Grenache Noir and 10% Cinsault. The average age of the vines is 40 years.

The wines of Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot

Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot produces wines from three appellations. With later-than-average ripening due to altitude, the wines stand out from the rest of Minervois production for their liveliness, broad aromatic range and more pronounced tannins.
