Domaine Lafage

4.1
(89 customer reviews)
The Lafage Estate is a family property that dates back to 1798. Its vineyards stretch from the shores of the Mediterranean to the foothills of the Pyrenees in the heart of Roussillon. It is divided into three distinct terroirs that represent the nuances of the Roussillon soils. The latest heir of the Lafage family, Jean-Marc, is an independent winemaker who happily shares his passion with us. Find out more

The winemaker

The history of the Lafage estate

It has been more than two centuries now that the Lafage family have been winegrowers. Before taking over the family estate, Jean-Marc Lafage and his wife, Éliane, not only studied oenology, but also went to discover other practices and know-how in wine regions far from their Catalonia. They participated in harvesting and vinification in Australia, the United States (California), Latin America and South Africa.

Returning to France in 1996, they took over the family lands, scattered between Canet en Roussillon, Maury and Perpignan. In 2001, the entire Lafage estate came under their responsibility. In 2006, they bought the Mas Miraflors.

The Lafage estate vineyard

The Lafage Estate vineyard covers the southernmost part of France. The Catalan farmhouse, built with stones dating from the XV th century, dominates the road that leads from Perpignan to the Mediterranean coast. From there, one can admire the Canigou mountain, with a spectacular view of the sea. The vineyard of the Lafage estate gathers about fifteen grape varieties of which some vines are centenarians. It extends over more than 350 hectares across the Roussillon, covering a territory ranging from the Mediterranean shores at Canet en Roussillon, to the Pyrenean foothills of the Aspres, passing through Maury.

Some wines from the Lafage estate

The wines of the Lafage estate are numerous and cover a very wide range. Here is a selection of the most iconic.

The red wine Côté Sud - IGP Côtes Catalanes

Coté Sud from the Lafage estate is made of Syrah and Grenache noir. It displays an elegant garnet color. Its intense nose develops red fruit scents, with spicy notes. Côté Sud is a perfect accompaniment to meat and grilled meats.

The white wine Cadireta - IGP Côtes Catalanes

Made with Chardonnay aged on Viognier bourbes, Cadireta offers a brilliant straw yellow color with fine green highlights. With an intense nose of ripe fruits, a full and structured mouth, it sublimates your platter of cold cuts and cheeses. It is also ideal with paella.

The Miraflors rosé wine - IGP Côtes Catalanes

Made from a blend of 50% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache Gris and 20% Grenache Noir, the Lafage Miraflors estate rosé wine has a pale pink color. The nose is fresh and mineral, subtly iodized. The mouth is fine, both fruity and spicy. Ideal for aperitifs, it also works wonderfully alongside sushi and shrimp.

Maury Grenat sweet wine - AOP Maury Grenat

The sweet wine Maury Grenat of the Lafage domain constitutes a reference in Roussillon. Consisting only of Grenache Noir, it is tasty and greedy. It goes well with your cocoa and chocolate desserts.

The Triple Rosé bubble wine

Domaine Lafage also offers sparkling wines. The Triple Rosé is filled with fruity aromas, with a round and fresh mouthfeel. It goes equally well with your aperitifs and desserts.
