The winemaker

The Story of Maxime Magnon

Maxime Magnon is originally from Burgundy, but he trained with winemakers from various regions, including Thierry Allemand in the Rhone Valley and Philippe Valette in Macon. Maxime Magnon founded the estate that bears his name in 2002 in Villeneuve les Corbières, in the splendid panorama of the Paradise Valley, in the south of the Corbières appellation, not far from Fitou.

As soon as he settled in, Maxime Magnon set about recovering the old Carignan vines that were in the process of being uprooted at the time, not only in the Corbières AOC, but also throughout the Languedoc region. His objective was to produce fruity and complex wines, made from local grape varieties, such as Carignan, but also Grenache gris, Cinsault, Grenache Noir and Syrah.

Maxime Magnon's vineyard

The vineyard of the Maxime Magnon estate covers 16 hectares. 9 hectares are cultivated in red and 7 hectares are in white. The average age of the vines is 80 years. The average annual production is 45,000 bottles.

The red grape varieties are Carignan (50%), Cinsault (20%), Grenache Noir (28%) and Syrah (2%). The white varieties are Grenache Gris (50%), Grenache Blanc (35%) and Carignan Gris (15%).

The vineyard extends over the communes of Villeneuve des Corbières, Durban and Cascastel. The soils are clay-limestone and schist. The culture is carried out without chemical phytosanitary products. During the winter, cows and sheep graze in the vineyards, which optimizes the microbial life of the soil. This practice limits soil compaction and avoids Maxime Magnon's autumn plowing, which tends to cause erosion.

The Maxime Magnon estate is run in the most natural way possible, from cultivation to bottling. The grape harvest is manual, as is the sorting which is done in the cellar. The vinification is also natural. It uses indigenous yeasts and the quantity of added sulfur remains minimal. All the vintages are corked with wax.

Maxime Magnon's wines

La Bégou - dry white AOC Corbières

La Bégou is a dry white wine made from the single grape variety of Grenache. The wine has a bright golden yellow color. The nose is floral, mixing white fruits, peach and pear. The mouth is intense and of a beautiful complexity. It gives off a fine minerality that we can already detect in the nose. It is fruity and greedy. A delicious salinity arrives at the end of the mouth.

Rozeta - red AOC Corbières

The Rozeta vintage is composed of a blend of Cinsault, Carignan and Grenache. The wine displays a brilliant red color, with carmine reflections. The nose is fruity, mixing red fruits, strawberries and sweet spices. The mouth is silky, fruity and spicy. It is a light and fresh wine, with a real aromatic power, long in mouth and very convivial.
