The winemaker

The history of the estate

It was in the late 1980s that the Domaine de Triennes took root, when Domaine Dujac founder Jacques Seysses, Aubert de Villaine and Michel Macaux decided to found a vineyard in the south of France, in Provence, in order to produce great wines.

The choice was made in 1989 for the "Le Logis de Nans" estate, located in the Var, on a hillside backing onto the Aurelian Mountains, just a few kilometers from the Mediterranean. Covering 46 hectares, the vineyard was soon renamed "Triennes", in honor of Roman religious festivals held every three years in ancient times.

A terroir and a philosophy

The 46-hectare vineyard enjoys an ideal microclimate, facing due south at an altitude of 350-400m. As soon as the estate was acquired, investments were made in the terroir, in order to implement a replanting and grafting program. The aim was to make the best possible massal selection and choose the right plant material to achieve the best union with the climate and clay-limestone soils.

As early as 1990, the winegrowers decided to plant Viognier, even though at that time it was only rarely planted in the Condrieu AOC, and not in the production area of Domaine de Triennes. Like the fulfillment of a prophecy, this grape variety enjoyed great success in the region from the late 1990s onwards.

Every two years, the estate is grassed, with the aim of controlling vigor, limiting erosion and integrating organic matter into the soil. And in order to produce wines that are ever more respectful and expressive of the terroir that gives them birth, the estate has been certified in Organic Agriculture since 2011.

In addition to the ecological dimension, Domaine de Triennes is committed to producing pure, authentic wines that reflect the quality of their terroir. Controlled yields, good acidity and slow ripening give life to authentic, complex wines.

The wines

With the aim of producing nice, drinkable wines, the domaine strives for gentle vinifications that leave room for terroir expression.

White wines are designed to offer as much freshness as aroma. Red wines combine fruitiness, character and elegance. Vinification without artifice to bring out the best in the terroir. Rosé wines are aromatic, fruity, fresh and delicate, perfect for a sunny aperitif.
