The winemaker

The Château Gautoul estate, located in Puy-l'Évêque in southwestern France, produces an exceptional Cahors AOC wine. The vineyards of Château Gautoul are mainly planted on the best terraces of the Lot. The grape varieties include 80% Malbec, 15% Merlot and 5% Tannat. The soils are of rare diversity, mainly sedimentary, leveled by the alluvial deposits of ancient river terraces. The estate's soils have no fewer than five major grading characteristics: silty, stony, limestone, clay and silica. This mineral palette lends a real richness to Château Gautoul wines in the glass. In the cellar, where the vinification of the terroir expresses itself, ageing and blending are carried out with care and respect for the product and for time. Our oenologist Pascal Chatonnet supports the team in all the important stages of vine cultivation and vinification. Several wines have won medals at the Paris and Mâcon Concours Agricoles. Château Gautoul 2018 has been awarded 3 stars in the Guide Hachette des vins 2021.
