The winemaker

This is the story of three friends and their wives. José Conde and brothers Tyrrel and Philip Myburgh began producing wine together in 2001. To brand their business, they chose the initials of their wives: Marie, Anette and Nicky. Man Family was born, with the aim of producing wines with excellent value for money, presented in modern packaging. Although the first bottles were produced on a shoestring, in a barn, production now reaches 175,000 cases a year, and the wines are exported to 25 countries. 95% of Man Family's grapes are produced by some thirty winegrowers in the Pederberg area, in the Agter-Paarl region. These winemakers are also partners in the operation. A few suppliers of white grapes are also located in a cooler region, along the coast near Durbanville. These vineyards are certified to current sustainable agriculture standards, and the majority of vines are old, non-irrigated vines. On low-fertility schist soils, they provide an interesting intensity of flavor. Typical South African grape varieties such as Pinotage (a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault) and Chenin Blanc are part of the Man Family range, as well as the global stars, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
