The winemaker

Set off with Elisabeth and Slanie de Pontac to discover this magnificent estate, which has been following the history of Bordeaux wines for over 400 years.
The vineyards of Château Peychaud are a true testimony of what was once a very large vineyard at the gates of Bordeaux. The three main Bordeaux grape varieties planted in Peychaud are located on the gravel and alluvial lands of the Garonne region and grow on various soils that give the wines a remarkable complexity and expression of the fruit. We are committed to developing «pleasures» wines, structured and fruity, with as a guideline the search for balance and the expression of the terroir of Peychaud.

IN A FEW WORDS, THE PEYCHAUD CASTLE IS:

- a small history in the great history,
when, more than 400 years ago, our ancestor the Marquis de Fayet, secretary to King Henri IV and councillor in the Parliament of Bordeaux, founded the Peychaud estate. His grandson undertook the construction of the castle in 1630 at a strategic location, halfway between Garonne and Dordogne. It is then a vast complex of polyculture dominated by wine.

- female continuity,
with the arrival in 2010 of Slanie and Elisabeth de Pontac, who bring precision, rigour and innovation. "I am both a memory of a heritage and a tenacious desire to make Peychaud and its wines live and love!" Elisabeth.

- a terroir of graves, a typical 'Cabernet',
In the heart of the Presqu'Ile, on the superb gravel of Ambarès-et-Lagrave, the 30 hectares of vineyards are planted in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc for the reds, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for the whites.

- authentic, enjoyable and accessible wines:
We offer a range of red, rosé and white wines ranging from everyday to excellence. Balance, elegance and respect for the fruit are our priority. Our wines are regularly rewarded with very nice notes or press comments.

- a blue label like the sea:
Dating back more than 150 years, then homage to the sea of our great-great (and still-great!) grandfather, the Admiral of Hornoy, Minister of the French Navy.

- reasoned innovations:
The consistency in the quality of our wines is a frequent return of our customers. This means being attentive to detail and listening to what was done before us. We combine this requirement with permanent innovations: new mechanical equipment in the vineyard, CO2 capture system of fermentations in the winery, new cuvées, partnership with wine start-ups, etc.

- Preserved natural biodiversity:
Our vineyards are surrounded by 25 hectares of century-old woods, a park, flower fields, fruit trees, a marsh. The bees of 30 hives offer acacia, linden or blackberry honey.

- a unique location 20 minutes from Bordeaux
We develop the reception of visitors and like to share around our wines a history, a family, an environment, an architecture, a place. Come and see us!
