The winemaker

The producer

The estate was founded by Pierre Faiveley in 1825 and subsequently developed by his son Joseph, who ran it until 1923. The latter introduced exports and built the foundation of the vineyard. The reputation of the Faiveley estate grew further with the acquisition in 1873 of lands in the Nuits-Saints-Georges Premier Cru Les Lavières, Les Porêts-Saint-George and the Corton Clos des Cortons Grand Cru monopoly. Over the generations, the family has continued to develop the estate, purchasing new land, parcels in premier cru, others in grand cru and in exceptional terroirs.

Today, Domaine Faiveley owns vines in many prestigious appellations. Run since 2005 by the seventh generation of Faiveley, Erwan, with the support of his sister Ève since 2014, the domaine's objective remains the quest for excellence. It produces wines that can be enjoyed both young and after a few years of aging.

An exceptional terroir

The Côte bourguignonne has the particularity of being made up of parcels on which only two grape varieties are planted, Pinot Noir for red wines and Chardonnay for whites.

The work in the vineyard is carried out with respect for the environment, terroirs and nature. Sustainable viticulture is at the heart of Domaine Faiveley's project, and these efforts have been recognized, with the estate obtaining High Environmental Value certification in 2019. This orientation is above all an ethical choice, but it also aims to produce wines of the highest quality.

An estate steered between tradition and innovation

The ancestral practices that have made Faiveley wines famous are still successfully employed. Vinification is carried out using a combination of traditional methods, modern equipment and innovative processes. Thus, grapes are sorted by hand, aged in oak barrels, cellar temperature and hygrometry are controlled, and each stage is carried out with rigor and attention by passionate teams.

The wines of Domaine Faiveley

These rigorous practices enable the production of wines that are at once elegant, fine and powerful. The domaine produces a large number of cuvées from its prestigious climats on exceptional terroirs, including several Grands Crus: Le Musigny Grand Cru millésime 2019 is balanced and fresh, with aromas of spice and fruit. This wine is produced in small quantities, but its quality is simply exceptional.

The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is an exceptional white wine. The palate of this grand cru is mineral and deep, it has great aromatic generosity, with fruity, floral and woody notes and great ageing potential.

It's said that the hillside of Corton used to contain only red grape varieties, from which Charlemagne's favorite wines were made, but he regularly stained himself with the red wine. He therefore had the vines uprooted and replaced with Chardonnay grapes to produce white wines.

Le Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a rich, sunny Côte de Nuits red wine with good structure, a dark ruby color and aromas of very ripe black fruits with hints of flowers and spices.
