The winemaker

The estate and its history

Château de Tracy stands on a vast park, with a view of the hillsides sliding down to the Loire. It has been in the same family since the 16th century. But it all began much earlier. A manuscript dating back to 1396 can even be found in the property archives, recording the purchase of Champs de Cris.

The latter still belongs to the château and is still planted with vines. A Scottish family, the Stutts, fought alongside Charles VII in the Hundred Years' War. Thanks to their devotion, the family received the seigneury of Assay. And one marriage, Tracy. Their descendants are the current owners of the property, and have reunited two branches of the same family separated for almost four centuries.

The estate and its vineyards

The family business is currently run by Juliette d'Assay. When she took over the reins of the estate, she made it a point of honor to maintain the spirit of quality and exacting standards that the domaine has always known. By practicing natural viticulture and vinification, Juliette makes every effort to produce wines that are faithful to the terroir.

Produced only from the estate's own vines, Pouilly Fumé is made entirely from the Sauvignon grape variety to offer a delicious dry white. The Pouilly Fumé vineyard produces 70,000 hl thanks to some 100 winegrowers. The soils are composed of flinty clay, Kimmeridgian oyster marl and limestone. Thanks to all this, the complexity and diversity of Sauvignon can express itself freely.

The estate and its winemaking

To achieve a precise level of ripeness, the grapes are harvested by hand, and some parcels are picked in several passes. Juliette d'Assay has even declared, "We are prepared to harvest the same plots up to 5 times". Thanks to this rigor and hard work, interventions during fermentation are limited, allowing it to proceed as naturally as possible.

To avoid leaving too much mark on the wine, the juices are vinified as they are, each plot is vinified separately, and the wine is aged in stainless steel vats. To compose the different cuvées, the domaine carries out "blind tastings" throughout the ageing process.

Château de Tracy offers a total of 4 different cuvées. All perfectly reflect the typicity of Tracy's terroirs. You have the cuvée "Mademoiselle de T", "Château de Tracy", "Haute Densité" and "101 Rangs". Juliette d'Assay does her utmost to be as faithful as possible to the vintage.
