The history of the estate

Château des Coccinelles was founded in 1928 by Gabriel Fabre, who laid the foundation stone for the mas in Domazan, in the southern Rhône valley. In 1950, Gabriel's son René took over the running of the estate at just 21 years of age. At that time, the estate was still in mixed farming, growing vines, cherries and apricots.

In the 1970s, René Fabre and his wife Marie-Claire began converting to organic farming. In 1974, the estate took part in the 1st international congress of "Nature et Progrès", and in 1978, the château obtained the first official "Nature et Progrès" certificates and could now label its wines "Culture Biologique". It was at this time that the name "Domaine des Coccinelles" was chosen, in a period when, going against the grain, the château took this more than avant-garde decision.

In 1999, Raymond Fabre took over the reins of the estate. He enlarged and modernized the winery. The winery now produces red, rosé and white wines. Today, Paul-Henri Fabre and his brother-in-law Jean-Baptiste Mangin run the estate. As a tribute to their elders, a cherry tree has been replanted on the estate.

The terroir

Today, Château des Coccinelles extends over 80 hectares of vines around the Signargues plateau, a terroir of excellence with a rich geological history.

The south/southeast-facing terroir is swept by the Mistral 200 days a year, and lies on clay-limestone soils covered with rolled pebbles. The clay that runs deep into the soil retains water and hydrates the vines, an essential element for balanced, fine wines.

The wines are produced under the Côtes du Rhônes and Signargues appellations. The black grape varieties are Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah, while the white grape varieties are Grenache Blanc and Roussanne.

The wines

The domaine produces 12 cuvées.

Cuvée Signargues is a blend of Grenache and Syrah. The color is cherry red with garnet highlights. The nose confirms this fruity impression with a bouquet of black and red fruits, as well as balsamic and spicy notes. The palate is powerful and generous.

Cuvée Château des Coccinelles Rosé is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault. With its sparkling pink color and full citrus nose, this wine subsequently reveals an aromatic, fruity palate that's as refreshing as it is balanced.

Cuvée Château des Coccinelles Blanc is a blend of Grenache blanc and Roussanne. Pale yellow in color, the nose offers a lovely bouquet as floral (white flowers) as it is fruity (peach). On the palate, the wine is round and full-bodied, with a fresh finish.
