The winemaker

My father grew tomatoes, cereals, tobacco and vines, taking the grapes to the village wine cooperative. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a winemaker, and at the age of 14 I began studying viticulture and oenology. In 1997, after 5 years working in Alsace, I decided to return to the family land and build a winery to make my own wine. 1998 was my first vintage. Today, the estate covers 22 hectares of hillside vineyards on a terroir of gravel and clay-limestone. The vines have been grown organically since 2000 and biodynamically since 2002. To make up for two consecutive years of hail (50% in 2006 and 13 ha at 100% in 2007), since the 2007 vintage we've been buying some grapes from a winegrower friend who owns a very attractive plot on a clay-limestone terroir under gravelly scree. The grapes purchased are produced according to strict specifications and are used exclusively for the Le vin est une Fête cuvée (not certified organic). We pay a great deal of attention to the work and care of the vines, because it's the sum of small details practiced throughout the year that will make a big qualitative difference at the end. In the cellar too, we work gently to respect the grapes, but above all we accompany them so that they express the terroir from which they come and the unique character of each vintage.
