On the route des Grands Crus, the commune of Flagey-Echezeaux is home to the Grands Echezeaux appellation, a triangular enclave within the Echezeaux appellation. The vineyards are planted on very stony brown limestone soils on hard Bathonian limestone. The combination of this shallow, predominantly clay soil and the limestone parent rock gives this climate its power and complexity.
