Founded in 1902, it is still owned by the catena zapata family and managed today by nicolás catena zapata. The estate comprises six vineyards in the sub-regions of luján de cuyo, tupungato and san carlos de mendoza, at altitudes ranging from 920 to 1,450 meters above sea level. The winery, with its Mayan-influenced pyramid shape, is located in Agrelo, a luján de cuyo.catena produces a wide range of wines under several different labels. The top range is the catena zapata line, which includes four wines from two different vineyards (nicasia and adrianna), and the malbec argentino, which is produced from grapes selected from the best rows of vines in each vineyard. The catena and catena alta ranges are more straightforward, offering wines made from malbec, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. The bodega is particularly well known for its rich, full-bodied red wines, as well as for its barrel-fermented chardonnays from high-altitude sites, which combine ripeness and fresh acidity. The adrianna vineyard is located close to 1,500 meters above sea level in Mendoza. The soils of this 1.4-hectare parcel are filled with limestone and marine deposits that covered the region millions of years ago. The limestone layers are well drained and particularly rich in rhizobacteria, the microorganisms that help the vine's roots to withstand stress and stress;The name "mundus bacillus terrae" or "microbesélégants de la terre" comes from these microorganisms.
