The winemaker
The history of the site dates back to 1836 when the explorer Major Thomas Mitchell crossed the river on its journey of 900 kilometers from Sydney to Melbourne. The riverside town was to be called Mitchellstown. Don Lewis Preece joined for the first vintage of the winery in 1973 and retired when Preece retired in 1974. The same year, the winery Mitchelton complex, designed by renowned Australian architect Ted Ashton and equipped with a tower of 55 meters, was officially opened. As we celebrate the 43th anniversary of the official opening, Mitchelton remains engaged in the production of specialized superb regional wines in mixtures of Shiraz, Riesling and Rhone.
