The winemaker

The Ryrie brothers, originally from Scotland, have ventured into the Yarra Valley, giving the name "Yering" aboriginal name. The brothers have planted two vines but mainly used the land for their cattle. In the early 1850s, Paul Castella took possession of Yering Station and began to develop from what remained primarily a breeding station to become a viticulture landmark in Victoria. For years, the vineyard of the Yering Station was one of the largest in the region, and visitors and vacationers from the Yarra Valley has increased. The wines of this new region began to make their mark on the world with winning Yering such as Argus Gold Cup award for the best Victorian Vineyard in 1861 and a Grand Prix at the Paris World Exhibition in 1889, where only fourteen awards were presented internationally.
