The winemaker

Our history Founded in 1804, our estate was rebuilt and operated at the end of the 19th century by our great-grandfather, Hippolyte Painturaud, after the great phylloxera crisis. Then, in 1934, Guy Painturaud, our grandfather, decided to market his cognacs and Pineaux des Charentes under his own name, to distinguish himself from the major trading houses. Thus was born Maison Painturaud Frères. He was also one of the first winegrowers in the appellation to market Pineau des Charentes. His son Jacques, our father, succeeded him in 1973: Jacques developed the business through his participation in numerous national wine fairs, and the creation of his own boutique in Segonzac. The Painturaud brothers In 2010, Jacques handed over the reins so that Jean-Philippe, Vincent, Matthieu and Emmanuel, representing the 4th generation of the Painturaud Frères family, could perpetuate 200 years of family know-how and tradition. Painturaud, a brand, a name, a family known to all in the region, with a true identity stemming from these magnificent lands of Grande Champagne. Local producers, sellers at trade fairs across the country, long-distance travelers, the Painturaud brothers travel the globe to promote and taste their treasures. Authentic, top-of-the-range cognacs and Pineaux des Charentes, from a terroir unique in the world, age-old know-how and family traditions handed down from father to son, offer consumers a rare experience in the heart of Grande Champagne, the 1er cru of cognac. Our know-how Our vineyard (40 hectares) is located in the heart of Grande Champagne, the 1er Cru of the Cognac appellation. It is on this unique terroir (clay-limestone slopes) that we produce eaux-de-vie of rare finesse, capable of being aged in oak barrels for decades. Very concerned about our environment, we have been practicing a model of reasoned cultivation for over 20 years, and in 2017 were awarded the HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) level 3 label, the highest level.Logo HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) We have our own still for the production of our eaux-de-vie. This alembic, known as the "alambic charentais", is specific to cognac production and is made entirely of copper. Our distillation practice in the appellation is called "repasse" (double distillation). The estate also houses our ageing cellars, where the eau-de-vie is matured for many years (from 5 to 80+ years), once it has left the still. Once this ageing process is complete, we blend the different cognacs to obtain a precise, harmonious quality. It's the work of a goldsmith, enabling each consumer to recognize and appreciate the Cognac of their choice. The know-how of blending has been handed down from father to son for four generations. We also produce Pineau des Charentes, a subtle blend of young Cognac and freshly pressed grape must. This mutage is then aged in oak barrels for 5 to 50 years in our century-old cellars.
