1988 is a classic vintage, with an advantage for the Right Bank. Some Pomerols and Saint Emilions eclipsed their younger counterparts of 1989 and 1990 in elegance. The red wines were very tannic, very colorful, very complex. These are long-ageing wines, which can be expected to develop a fine, powerful bouquet as they age.
