The winemaker

The Maule Valley is the wine region southernmost of the Central Valley. This historic region still has many vineyards planted with traditional varieties (including especially Pais) largely abandoned elsewhere. She has not generated the same enthusiasm as the valleys of Curicó, Maipo and Colchagua, at least until recently. The vineyard covers 31 000 hectares situated between the coastal range to the west and the Andes to the east, on the dominant volcanic soils. The climate is one of the central valley, Mediterranean, that is to say, hot and dry during the ripening period, but the topography of the mountain range leaves more to spend the cool Pacific than in the vineyards further north . The region produces mainly red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon (9300 ha), Merlot or Carmenère. In white, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are the most planted.
