Le vieux donjon - châteauneuf du pape rouge 2018le vieux donjon is located in the châteauneuf-du-pape region, in the rhône valley. In the 1900s, the Michel family produced grapes which they sold in bulk to wine merchants, as well as in barrels. The modern estate was created by lucien and marie-jos michel in the late 1970s, making it young by european standards, but around a third of the vines in the old dungeon are over 100 years old. As a result, 95% of their wine production is sold for export. Today, the vineyard boasts just over 15 hectares of organically farmed vines cultivated by their children, claire and françois michel. These are almost exclusively planted with red grapes; they produce just one red cuvée, and a micro-cuvée of white.le vieux donjon châteauneuf-du-pape is a blend of grenache (75%), syrah (10%), mourvèdre (10%) and cinsault (5%). Half the crop is harvested and vinified using traditional methods. All grapes, except the mourvèdre, are fermented together in vats with indigenous yeasts. The appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape is part of the region of Vallée du Rhône from France which include Domaine le vieux Donjon and its 10 cuvées. Spread over The Rhone Valley and its rich, complex terroirs. The region is divided into two distinct subregions: Northern Rhone (known as Rhône Septentrional) and Southern Rhone (Rhône Méridional). In the former we find strong wines in beautiful colours with warm, spicy notes, produced by vineyards that stretch 4,700 ha along the Rhone. The latter, with an area of 71,000 ha, is much more important, and this is evident of course in its annual production of red, rosé and white wines quite unlike those of the Northern Rhone., this region is 3 million hectolitres per year of red wines, rosés, dry and sparkling white wines, and natural sweet wine..
