The History of Bonhoste Castle

Bonhoste is a locality in the commune of Saint Jean de Blaignac. The Château de Bonhoste was born at the very end of the 19th century, founded by the Buissière family. In 1977, Bernard Fournier brought together the property of his grandmother, Madame Buissière, and that of the Chabert family, dating from the late 18th century. He wished to increase the family heritage, together with his wife Colette.

Since 2005, the Château de Bonhoste has been taken over by the couple's children, Sylvaine and Yannick Fournier, who represent the fifth generation. Sylvaine, who has a degree in economics and business management, is in charge of marketing the estate's production, while her brother Yannick manages the technical part and the wine making, after having pursued studies in viticulture and oenology.

The Château de Bonhoste vineyard

The vineyard of the Château de Bonhoste occupies an exceptional geographical situation which lends itself wonderfully to the cultivation of the vine. The plots cover a hillside facing the prestigious village of Saint Emilion, overlooking the Dordogne valley. They benefit from the temperate climate of the Bordeaux region, with mild winters, during which frosts are extremely rare, humid springs, hot summers and autumns that experience prolonged sunshine.

The Château de Bonhoste vineyard covers 44 hectares of draining clay-limestone soil. When there is too much rain, the water easily runs off into the depths of the earth, preventing maceration of the vine roots.

The wines of Château de Bonhoste age in the best conditions, thanks to the cellar dug two centuries ago, designed to provide a stable temperature and an ideal humidity level.

Château de Bonhoste has the HVE certification (High Environmental Value). This guarantees a natural phytosanitary strategy, a scrupulous management of resources, especially water, as well as the preservation of biodiversity.
