In a few words ...

A cuvée emblematic of Domaine Rière Cadène. Augusta owes its name to the Roman road built in the 1st century AD, which extended the Via Domitia southwards. It was along this ancient road that the Roman legions brought vines to Roussillon. A fruity, fresh, well-balanced red that reconciles neophytes and discerning palates. Cuvée Augusta will be the ideal partner for your convivial meals. Cuvée Augusta is a blend of Syrah (50%) and Grenache noir (50%) from the "Mas Bel Air" plot (Perpignan). Selection by plot. Harvested just before phenolic ripeness. De-stemming, pre-fermentation cold maceration, punching down. Two-week vatting. Selection of run-off juice. Bottled in April 2016.

Excellent value for money. Deserves to be well aerated, as very powerful. An unpretentious but very pleasant wine.

Summer has been hard on the vineyards, and is also being felt in the far south. The last cuvée was at 13°, this one is at 14.5° and, inevitably, this Augusta is a little less fine and heavier. But it's still a very good wine!
