Domaine Pithon-Paillé
(148 customer reviews)
The Domaine Pithon-Paillé is one of the emblematic vineyards of the Loire Valley. Created in 2008 by Jo Pithon, the estate is located in Maine et Loire east of the Armorican Massif. Today, the vineyard has 9 hectares of vines planted mainly in Chenin on the different typical terroirs of the Anjou, Savennières, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume appellations. For Jo Pithon, the heart of the winegrower's job is the values of sharing and respect for the terroir. The vineyard is in this sense certified in organic agriculture and has undertaken its certification in biodynamic agriculture. Since 2018, Jo Pithon has handed over the reins in the vineyards and winery to Ivan Massonnat, a passionate oenophile and lover of the terroirs of Anjou. Find out more

The winemaker
Our History
Created in 2008, Domaine Pithon-Paillé covers 9 hectares mainly planted in Chenin on the great terroirs of Anjou, Savennières, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume. These plots are preserved using techniques that respect the life of the soil and its functioning as a complex agro-ecosystem.The lands of this small eastern corner of the Armorican Massif are very varied due to the bedrock (schists, spilites, carboniferous powders) and the Chenin is an excellent "translator" of this geological richness. Our work on the wine is based on the intrinsic quality of the fruit and the development of our terroirs.
Jo, who has been a winegrower for several decades, is soon coming to the end of his career, after having created and made a great estate known with all his love and passion. By meeting Ivan Massonnat, he leaves the reins with the same passion in a very organic and human spirit.
Our Philosophy
« We wish to work with the greatest respect for the land and the people around us, » says Ivan.« Wine is sharing, with good friends and good food. Let's forget about luxury and etiquette, let's rather talk about terroir, farmers and pleasure. »
« First of all, is it good? This is the first question asked in all our blind tastings. Wine is also about travelling, meeting and exchanging with winemaking friends! »
« Our credo is terroir. We try to express it with Chenin, which is a chameleon grape variety. Depending on the soil, the exposure, it will be, and it will express itself in different ways. This is how we can offer a range of 5 Chenins all different from each other. »
« Oh and, to do that, you have to be organic, the terroir means respecting the life of the soil, it goes without saying! »
