In a few words ...

Cahors is a small wine-growing region on the Lot. In the 19th century, its dark, almost black-red wines competed with Bordeaux. They are traditionally made from malbec, locally known as cot or auxerrois. Today, this grape variety is most often blended with the very supple Merlot. The 1976 vintage produced wines that were often rich in alcohol and dry. The high temperatures and lack of water produced sugar, but blocked the ripening of the tannins.
