Origin: Parcels located at Les Saintes Vierges, La Font du Pape and La Crau Ouest. John XXII is in the spotlight. The first of Avignon's popes, he developed a pontifical vineyard and built a château in what was to become Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Grape varieties: Grenache vieilles vignes 64%, Syrah 25%, Mourvèdre 10%, Counoise 1%. Vinification: Hand-picked with strict sorting, partial destemming, gentle maceration with light punching of the cap. Aging: 18 months in recent foudres. Soils: Les Saintes Vierges and La Crau Ouest (sandy soils on Miocene molasses), La Font du Pape (ancient alluvium and reworked mollassic sands).
