Located on the Adriatic coast of central Italy, the Abruzzo wine region stretches inland. Most of the landscape is characterized by rolling mountain foothills that strongly influence viticulture. The climate is balanced and mild, but the sharp variations in temperature between day and night during the summer months give the wines a unique character. Not to be confused with the town of montepulciano, this grape variety is one of the most represented in central Italy. The best known is undoubtedly Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, which must be at least 70% montepulciano.
