The winemaker

Valdipiatta was founded in 1973 but it was only in 1990 when Giulio Caporali bought the property he began earning a reputation for producing some of the finest Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Through his vision, determination and hard work, Giulio turned a small Tuscan farmhouse with its vineyards into a modern and successful cellar. Obviously, its renovation and revitalization program began in the vineyards. After a study, careful analysis of the ground conditions, clonal selections, vine densities and pruning systems, the vines were replanted in order to produce Prugnolo Gentile (the local name for Sangiovese) quality grapes exceptional. These same standards have guided Giulio in the following years, he bought additional vineyards in producing the first regions of Montepulciano. After completing the conversion of vineyards, Giulio began redesigning the cellar with the installation of the most up-to-date equipment and the introduction of small oak barrels from the best French coopers. He built an impressive underground cellar by digging deep into the rock of a hill in the property.
