The winemaker
The vineyard is located in the Alto Douro (Douro Superior) in northern Portugal. The region of the Upper Douro has long been the least cultured Douro because of traffic difficulties on this part of the Douro River (formerly the wines were brought by boat to Porto to be sold). It remains untapped in wine production but is now regarded as the most prestigious area of Portugal. Wine production dates back to the Roman period (2nd century BC).
