The winemaker

The history of the vineyard Batoreu begins in 1860, and José N. lorsqu'Ignacio Batoreu Canteiro settled in the region of Aveiras de Cima. They grow their own vineyard which was then located in Sitio dos Pocos, and has not moved since. In 1935, the grand-son of Ignacio married the granddaughter of Jose. Together, they have made this wine a real company producing the best wines of Tejo. Then came their daughter Maria Jose and her husband Armando Silvestre who retook the reins of the estate. In 1988, the winery changed its name and became the field Agro Batoreu, name it has today. Today is their son who is in charge of the vineyard. It has 40 hectares of vines growing on a ground of chalk and limestone. The focus is largely given to local varieties: Arinto, Castelão, Trincadeira, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional yet.
