Bodega benjamin de rothschild - vega sicilia - macan 2016vega sicilia is considered Spain's leading wine producer. The ribera del duero estate is known for its dense, complex red wines, made mainly from the tinto fino grape (tempranillo). Its grand vin, unico, is one of the most expensive and sought-after wines in Spain. The vega sicilia estate covers some 1,000 hectares, including 210 hectares of vines. It has been in existence since 1864, long before the development of the appellation in which it operates, and the current wine styles date from the 1910s. Quality has become more consistent since the current owners, the alvarez family, took over in 1982. The vineyards are planted to around 80% Tempranillo, with the remainder occupied by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and tiny quantities of Malbec. Yields are kept low, aided by green harvesting and meticulous grape selection. Cellar operations are equally meticulous, with highly technical racking of large barrels, mixing old and new oak and producing wines capable of long ageing. Vega Sicilia also owns the nearby bodegas alion, which produces high-quality tempranillo varietal wines for early drinking, and the bodegas pintia and toro.macán is the shared vision of two great names in the wine world, rothschild and vega sicilia, for rioja. It is made from the tempranillo variety. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels and vats. Ageing is carried out in barrels made of extra-fine and fine-grained French wood, the majority in new barrels and the remainder in one-wine barrels. It remains in wood for 15 months, then in bottle until marketed.cépage: 100% tempranillo
