The winemaker

Thousands of years ago, part of the Struma River (near the town of Sandanski) was inhabited by a Thracian tribe, the Medi. This tribe is the tribe of the most famous gladiator: Spartacus (he was the main leader of the rebels during Rome's third servile war between 73 and 71 BC). The Medi tribe was known not only for their worship of wine, but also for their in-depth knowledge of viticulture and winemaking. In tribute to this Thracian tribe, who laid the foundations for wine production in this part of the valley, the estate was named "Medi Valley". The Medi Valley winery was founded in 2007, and is run by Stoycho Stoev (Bulgaria's top oenologist). It lies at the foot of the Rila mountain, 630 m above sea level, in the northern part of the Struma river valley, on the road leading to the world-famous Rila Monastery.
