In a few words ...

Only thirteen Saint Emilions can boast a 100/100 rating from Robert Parker. Larcis Ducasse is one of the privileged few, including such emblematic vintages as Châteaux Ausone and Cheval Blanc. The château benefits from an exceptional terroir, with parcels adjoining those of the prestigious château pavie 1er grand cru classé. For half a century, from 1893 to 1941, the raba family ran the estate until their last child died during the Second World War. Their niece, Hélène Gratiot, took over the running of the estate. The Gratiot family?s descendants continue to own the château today, entrusting its management to Nicolas Thienpont in 2002. As with the neighboring château de pavie-macquin, larcie ducasse called on the services of consulting winemaker stéphane derenoncourt to bring out the best in her terroir and produce a wine worthy of its rank as a 1er grand cru classé.Their partnership soon bore fruit, with the American critic Robert Parker awarding the château a 100/100 rating for the remarkable 2005 vintage: "With an incredible nose of liquorice, tapenade, black cherry and blackcurrant liqueur, as well as very soft tannins and astonishing richness and length, this 2005 is the fruit of a prodigious effort. Located on the slopes near Château Pavie, Domaine Larcis Ducasse is not to be missed!
