Sheltered by the highest peaks in the Vosges, the hillsides of the Rouffach region are exceptionally sunny. The composition of the subsoil, essentially limestone, ensures excellent drainage. Exposure varies from east to southwest. In 2005, the Institut National des Appellations d'Origine recognized the "Côte de Rouffach" appellation as a communal appellation.
