The winemaker

A story : If we find traces of the family from 1246 and that of the King Musketeer D'Artagnan (born Charles de Batz) is truly in the middle of the nineteenth century that the Gélas family ties its fate to that of Armagnac. William Gélas, cooper by trade, yields in 1865 his business to his son Baptiste. The latter created the Maison Gelas, he moved into the premises currently occupied and it starts a business development and Armagnac trading. In 1910, his son Louis took over management of the company and acquires a property planted vine in Manciet, Castle Martet, still in the family fold. Male audience, it will occupy the functions of elected in his hometown and at departmental level. A know-how : After World War II, succeeded his father Pierre Louis and gives the family home, an international dimension. It is the first dealer Gers to open in 1950 its activity in trading of wines and various spirits. He revolutionized his time by presenting the exclusive Armagnac from the terroir of Bas Armagnac and Ténarèze to their natural degree of aging and no reduction. This unique selection of owners giving it a reputation on the biggest French and foreign tables. Today, his son Philip, representing the fourth generation of the family Gélas, runs the company since late 2001.
