The winemaker

The Story of Quancard Horse

Cheval Quancard was founded in 1844, by Pierre Quancard, a merchant and winegrower in the Bordeaux region. He settled on the premises of an old relay and worked with his sons. Jean, the banker, sees to the good management of the exploitation, Eugène, the youngest, works on the production and the wine trade.

In 1869, Marcel, Eugène's son, took over the business. This is how the family is transmitted from Cheval Quancard. Raoul, Marcel's son, imposes the horse as the emblem of the House at the dawn of the 60s. He wanted it to reflect the image of his company, which was one of the leading companies in the Bordeaux trade.

1998 was a turning point for Cheval Quancard which moved from Ambarès to Carbon-Blanc. With an additional 17,000 m², the brand considerably increases its bottling and storage capacity.

Roland Quancard is in charge of the international business which he develops energetically. 40% of the production is now reserved for export.
